YaraVita PROCOTE: Better flow, higher yield

March 4, 2022 | Western Canada

You know your crop needs micronutrients. You can see it with your own eyes when there’s a deficiency – a stunted crop, dead plant tissue or yellowing of leaves due to reduced production of chlorophyll. Low levels of zinc, boron or other micronutrients cost you yield and in plant health.

The problem is, no one likes blending micronutrients, especially as you watch your investment float away in big clouds of dust. It’s heavy, dirty work. And then when you get out into the field, everything stops as you try and release a giant clump of sticky fertilizer stuck in the air tank.

Better flow where every granule counts

NPKS fertilizer treated with YaraVita® PROCOTE™ flows better due to its oil suspension technology. YaraVita PROCOTE is a dealer-applied liquid coating that delivers the exact amount of micronutrients. This high ‘level of availability means lower application rates and better yield potential.

Growers using YaraVita PROCOTE will experience almost no dust and minimal cleanup. It stores without clumping and doesn’t stick when it’s being applied. Caking tendencies are reduced during storage.

YaraVita PROCOTE is available in boron, copper, manganese, zinc, and blends of BCMZ and BMZ. Each micronutrient is identified by a different color mix. With each granule containing the perfect mix of micronutrients, plants can access the micronutrients they need across more feeding sites. With the increase in uptake efficiency, the micronutrients are only needed in grams/acre.

Improved water use in 2021

Fertilizing a crop with the correct micronutrients in a form that makes the fertilizer available to the crop can have added benefits beyond what you’d expect.

The Yara Incubator Farm is located at the Discovery Farm in Langham, Saskatchewan. It’s an 80-acre field split evenly into canola and wheat. As a regular practice, soil moisture probes are installed to measure available water throughout both crops. Check strips compare canola and wheat plants that received the proper dose of micronutrients from a product such as YaraVita PROCOTE with untreated checks.

Researchers saw surprising results in 2021. Canola grown under a Yara crop nutrition program showed an 18 per cent increase in available water used and wheat showed a 12 per cent increase. The comprehensive nutrient program also produced earlier root development, allowing the plants to reach even more stored soil water.
